520.3.#.a: Located in the Archivo General de la Nación (Ramo Historia, volume 392, pages 309-312), this particular document written in Yaqui with a contemporary translation is of importance linguistically. However, taken together with the two accompanying Spanish letters written by Jesuit missionaries, it sheds light on the state of the mission system of the Jesuits in Northwestern Mexico. Through these documents, written by both Indian and missionary, the confusion of these Indians, as caused by the conduct of missionary Francisco Ortiz, is seen.
