Resumen
This transdisciplinary article covers the stages that asepsis underwent to consolidate itself as a biopolitical technology in architecture and modern urbanism in Costa Rica. To this end, we review the infrastructures and policies linked to Dr. Carlos Durán Cartín, during the transition to the 20th Century and up until the mid-20th Century. It is concluded that there was an endemic drift in modern architecture, in which asepsis was a key player in the consolidation of a "civilizatory" project promoted by the country’s elites; this technology was initially implemented for the management of microorganisms, so as to serve the organization of human biological differentiation.
