520.3.#.a: The relation between winds and sea surface temperatures in the Gulf of Tehuantepec is investigated. The low winter temperatures are found to be related to the wind induced mass transport divergence, the magnitude of which is about 0.02 g cm-2sec1 during a winter gale. A spectral analysis of ten-day temperature and wind anomalies indicates that anomalies in adjacent two degree squares of latitude and longitude are coherent and almost simultaneous. There exists a rather weak and inverse relation between temperature and wind anomalies.
