This text comes from the Mixe oral tradition. Hidolina Santiago Jiménez, a 13-year old girl who is a Mixe native speaker from Duraznal, Tamazulápam, narrated this text. The first part describes how Juan, her husband, and Pedro feed the ants, an eagle, and a jaguar because they were starving. In the second part, the three humans are in trouble because they must carry out activities that are almost impossible; but the insects and animals help them to accomplish their tasks. Such texts from the Mixe oral tradition teach us about the responsibilities that humans should take on.
