Resumen
Water is the most abundant component in the human body; it is distributed throughout all cells. In healthy people, the total amount of water in the body is stable due to physiological mechanisms, but when water loss exceeds water intake, dehydration occurs, which has negative effects on the health of individuals. Both the amount of fluid consumed and the amount needed by the body vary depending on diet, availability, including education, environmental conditions, age, metabolism, physical activity and health status. The purpose of this article is to review some of the beverages available, their components and their contribution to the body, and some recommendations regarding water consumption in general.
