La administración de las temporalidades del Colegio de San Francisco Xavier de Puebla (1767-1773)

Resumen
This article deals with the administrative dispositions that were taken after the expulsion of the Society of Jesus from New Spain. For this purpose, we will analyze the resolutions taken about the Jesuit institute of San Francisco Xavier de Puebla, which since its foundation in 1743 was administered by the religious. In order to delve into the study of this institution, we will learn how its patrimony was formed, as well as the measures that were taken after 1767 to decide its destiny. By reviewing the decrees and instructions issued from Madrid and contrasting them with the decisions made for the viceroyalty by the authorities who remained in charge, we will recognize the effects of the geographical and cultural separation between the two territories. For the specific case of the educational institutions, in most cases the solutions thought by the crown were impossible to be applied by the local authorities, on the other hand, the path taken by the boards appointed for this decision making responded immediately to their immediate context, taking into consideration only the plans and objectives dictated by the King, and favoring the survival of some of these institutions as in the case of the Colegio de San Francisco Xavier.
