However, the herpetofauna of Nicaragua is one of the least studied in the region. A nine-month study of amphibians and reptiles was carried out in an ecotourism farm in the upper part of the southern basin of Managua, using visual encounter sampling (VES). A total of 37 species were reported, divided into nine amphibians and 28 reptiles. The effective numbers of species (Hill numbers) indicated a higher diversity for site SFL2 and a lower diversity in SFL1 and SFL2, the latter being more similar. These differences were caused by biotic and abiotic factors. The most dominant species was Agalychnis callidryas (n = 228). The microhabitats with the highest and lowest number of individuals were Pools with Water (n = 369) and Buildings (n = 26). Six species are in some degree threatened. Finally, we emphasize conservation activities for Craugastor laevissimus and propose A. callidryas as a flagship species in the area. Explanatory note: We mention that the total number of species reported in this study corresponds to 38. It should be noted that one species was not evaluated in the analysis of results, in this way we additionally documented Geophis sartorii in the upper part of the southern basin of Managua
