Vieja bifasciata possesses more teeth in the lower pharyngeal jaw. Variation in this bones may effect jaw biomechanics. Morphological differences are in contrast with the little genetic differentiation observed. The geographic isolation of V. bifasciata is likely related to its morphological differentiation.
