520.3.#.a: In the Mexican state of Baja California Sur there are only four oasis of major extensions, up to 2.0 km2; La Purísima (2.25 km2) is the third largest. In the past the oasis was frequently affected by flooding resulting from extreme rainfall events, which generated severe destruction in the basin. We conducted a diagnosis of the oasis La Purísima, regarding to possible flooding in extreme rainfall events, including statistical analysis of precipitation for the development of a hydrologic and hydraulic model in order to calculate the maximum ruoff, estimate the volume and frequency of floods in the stream Cadegomo river under different scenarios of extreme rainfall. Finally a hazard map of flodding was elaboraded, according to the evaluated flooding scenarios. The occurence of floods in the past and its effects on the oasis La Purísima were analyzed through historical evidence of flooding in the area in order to verify the scenarios and calibrate the models. The results indicate a significant increase in the wáter levels of the drainage basin, caused from extreme rainfall events with an increase in the flooded area up to 14%, estimated for the return time of 20 years and a 1 000-year event would generate an increase in the flooded area of 67% which would affect areas of the urban region, as well as nearly all gardens in the oasis.
