520.3.#.a: This text discusses, on the basis of a documen-tary analysis, the Novo-Hispanic consumption of mother-of-pearl inlaid paintings. Many of the conserved examples are virtuoso works, connected with Miguel and Juan González, and survived until the twentieth century in Spanish collections. Nonetheless, the documentary information shows that the extensive consumption by different social groups in New Spain embraced works of widely differing quality and price that must have been executed in different painting studios. The documentary analysis is complemented with the formal study of examples by González, Nicolás Correa and anonymous artists, the characteristics of which demonstrate the considerable diversity generated by this mode of painting. The study of this production thus sheds light on an important sector of artistic interest during the Viceroyalty. En este texto se discute, a partir de un análisis documental, el consumo novohispano de las pinturas incrustadas de concha nácar. Muchos ejemplares conservados son virtuosos, están ligados a Miguel y Juan González y alcanzaron el siglo xx en colecciones españolas. Sin embargo, la información documental demuestra que diversos grupos sociales novohispanos consumieron numerosas obras, de calidades y precios diversificados, que deben de haberse hecho en distintos talleres de pintura. el análisis documental se complementa con el estudio formal de ejemplares de los gonzález, Nicolás Correa y artistas desconocidos, cuyas características demuestran que esta modalidad pictórica dio lugar a una notable diversidad. es decir, el estudio de esta producción arroja luz a una parte importante de los intereses pictóricos virreinales.
