520.3.#.a: Opportunities to study the wind structure in the surface boundary layer of a hurricane are rare. One of these rare opportunities was provided by Hurricane Donna which passed over Long Island, New York, on Septemher 12, 1960 in the vicinity of the 420-foot meteorological tower of the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) (Singer, Nagle,and Brown, 1961).
