520.3.#.a: The recent climatic fluctuations are examined as to amplitude "and pattern, as a necessary prerequisite to explanation and predictive extrapolation. Two quite distinct hypothesis, that of atmospheric pollution and that of cyclical solar-climatic interaction, are considered as possible causes of the recent fluctuations and accordingly as predictors of the climatic changes to come, notably with respect to the imminence of and Ice Age. The solar-climatic hypothesis gains the strong preference of the author.
