520.3.#.a: Estimates of the magnitude of the exchange processes associated with cumulus and smaller scale fluctuations are obtained. The estimates are obtained as residuals after computing the terms involving the mean quantities in the momentum and the thermodynamic energy equations. The results confirm the idea that cumulus convection plays an important role in increasing both heat and momentum in the upper troposphere. In addition, they show that the mixing length hypothesis alone may not be able to describe completely the Exchange processes in hurricanes.
