520.3.#.a: This work’s multidisciplinary approach provides a broad spectrum of analysis: it not only deals with issues that have caused frequent tension on the bilateral agenda such as migration and the economic impact of maquiladora plants, but also other, more recent topics. Among these are national security, the adjustments the international situation demands of both countries’ foreign policy and the role of the mass media. It also covers contemporary issues like the emergence of new transnational actors and the regulation of genetically modified organisms.
500.#.#.a: Critical Issues in the New U.S.-México Relations provides the opportunity to get a look at a group of experts’ research results and their specific explanations for issues that are important for understanding the complexity of Mexico and the United States’ indissoluble proximity. With this aim in mind, its editors gathered several articles honed from a series of lectures given by researchers from the UNAM’s Center for Research on North America and Michigan State University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies. The authors offer us a multidisciplinary focus for exploring issues that reflect some of the difficulties and also some of the promising aspects of the Mexico-U.S. relationship. The spectrum of analysis is novel in that it not only looks at matters that have frequently been tense issues on the bilateral agenda like migration and the economic impact of maquiladoras, but also other more recent issues. Among the latter are national security, the adjustments the international situation imposes on our countries’ foreign policy, and the role of the mass media. The book also takes a look at contemporary issues like the emergence of new transnational actors and the regulation of genetically modified organisms.
