Resumen
Introduction. The purpose of screening for cervico-uterine cancer is to identify women who have the disease of show precursors of it. Cervico-uterine is the second most frequent cause of death in Mexican women. Improper sampling or measurement will negatively affect the sensibility and specificity of the screening. As this screening is carried out by the nursing staff, it is necessary that schools teach prospective nurses the necessary cognitive and process skills that will allow them to perform this task with the utmost efficiency.Objective. To evaluate and correlate the level of the cognitive and process skills that are involved when teaching the topic “Screening for Cervico Uterine Cancer” to nursing students. Methodology. Prospective,observational, cross-sectional, and analytical relational study using non-probabilistic cluster sampling. Results: The average level of cognitive skills was 3.66 points (with 95% confidence: 3.36 to 4.12) out of a maximum of 10 points, whereas the average level of process skills was 9.31 points (with 95% confidence: 9.18 to 9.43) out of 10. No significant correlation was found between the two skills (r=0.082, p=0.459). Conclusion. Subjects demonstrated cognitive skills that could be characterized as deficient, unlike their demonstrated process skills. The absence of a significant correlation between the skills indicates that, while students carry out the screening efficiently, they lack crucial cognitive skills involving the fundamentals of such a screening.
