Resumen
The climate phenomenon is conceived as a “threat multiplier” that exacerbates existing instabilities and increases conflicts at the international and national levels, generating the link: climate change and security. Hence, securitization of climate change is increasingly integrated into national security strategies, such is the case of the United States and the European Union, however, in the international community, it is a process currently under discussion in the Security Council of Nations United States due to of the serious political implications it may entail. In this context, this study analyzes various theories regarding the evolution of the object of security in order to determine the conceptual bases of the process of securitization of climate change, to determine what are the direct and indirect threats that are perceived against international and national security, how and why the climate crisis becomes a security problem, what kind of security is involved, who has an interest in securitizing this phenomenon, for what and who benefits; those answers bring us closer to clearing the pros and cons of this process, which is specifically analyzed in two current powerful threats: the climate displaced persons and competition for control of strategic resources for the energy transition.
