Resumen
Objective: to determine the epidemiological characteristics of cervical cancer during a three-year period in a medical ambulatory care unit (macu) of the General Hospital of the zone 15 in Reynosa, Tamaulipas. Methods: the information was gathered in the care unit database, from March to October 2012. This base contained a follow-up of 1 663 women who diagnosed dysplasia and, uterine and cervical cancer; in addition, it was provided monitoring care and treatment for 8 489 women. Results: 59.1% were probable cases and in 40.9% dysplasia and cancer were confirmed. The most affected group was that of women between 25 and 44 years old. 17.74% was estimated as a percentage of abandonment of treatment and 54.7% of correlation between cytological and histopathological. Conclusions: as this is a descriptive study, it only allowed us to know the frequency but not the reason for abandoning the treatment. It would be necessary to conduct a follow-up study to determine the reasons for discontinuation of treatment.
