Resumen
One of the most violent chapters of Latin American history in the 20th century was the one led by Sendero Luminoso in Peru. This brutal episode has been captured in diverse art works. This article focuses on one of them, Santiago Roncagliolo’s novel Abril rojo. With a black genre perspective as starting point, this paper aims to explain the mechanisms used by the Peruvian writer to reflect upon the internal conflict. It also examines the role of the detective as the guiding thread of the novel and as lens through which war-derived crimes and social problems are seen.
